The Search Engine Vs The Social NetworkIn recent years two dominant forces have emerged on the web, firstly the Google search engine which arrived on the web in the 90's and initially had to fight all the other competitor search engines to the number one spot. Now it dominates markets such as the UK and the US as well as most of the world. The second is "The Social Network" that is Facebook, which is no where near as old as Google in terms of online age and was developed to serve a completly different function to Google. It too had to fight off other competing social networks i.e Myspace. It now dominates the majority of the western world and is increasing gaining market share in other countries.
Despite the two initially serving two completely different functions i.e one enables you to search any topic, the other allows you to connect with friends and share thoughts. The similarities that have enabled them dominate in thier own mark
